Phenazepam is a benzodiazepine tranquilizer drug. It is used in Russia since 1975 to treat anxiety disorders, insomnia, alcohol withdrawal syndrome, and epilepsy.
The pharmacological effects and mechanism of action of Phenazepam are similar to that of commonly used benzodiazepines such as Clonazepam, Diazepam, and Lorazepam.
Phenazepam is a benzodiazepine receptors agonist and works by enhancing GABAergic neurotransmission. It has a relatively long half-life of 60 hours.
The drug is highly effective in the treatment of anxiety and insomnia; however, Phenazepam may impair cognitive functions and form a dependence if used irresponsibly.
