Nootropil [Piracetam]

Piracetam is a GABA derivative and the reference nootropic drug. It is used since 1960’s to treat various cognitive dysfunctions caused by organic brain disorders.

As of today, Piracetam is used in the medical practice of Russia and several European countries. It is also often marketed as a cognitive-enhancing supplement.

The exact mechanism of action of Piracetam is not fully understood. It is suggested that the drug increases the oxygen and glucose consumption in the brain and acts as a positive allosteric modulator of AMPA receptors.

Indications for use are:

• Symptomatic treatment of organic brain syndrome, such as age-related memory and attention impairments
• Ischemic stroke
• Alcohol abstinence syndrome and cognitive impairments caused by chronic alcoholism
• Traumatic brain injuries
• Vertigo
• Adjunctive therapy of learning disabilities in children

It is recommended to take Piracetam alongside with choline supplementation, as they have a synergistic effect.
