Encephabol is a nootropic drug used in Russia and Europe to treat various neurological conditions.
The active ingredient of Encephabol is Pyritinol, also known as Pyrithioxine. Pyritinol molecule consists of two vitamin B6 molecules bound by a disulfide bridge. However, the pharmacological effects of Encephabol differ from that of the Vitamin B6.
Encephabol does have pronounced nootropic effects. It does improve the metabolic processes in the brain tissues, uptake and metabolism of glucose and the delivery efficiency of nucleic acids. The drug enhances cerebral blood flow, especially in the ischemic brain and the rheological properties of blood.
Besides that, Encephabol can be used to improve memory and cognitive functions because of its cholinergic action (the ability to increase the biosynthesis and synaptic release of acetylcholine).
Indications for use are:
- Encephalopathy.
- Decreased mental capacity.
- Dementia of various origins.
- Encephalitis sequelae.
- Developmental delay in kids.
