Noben (Idebenone) is a nootropic drug used to treat various neurological disorders. It is a synthetic derivative of Coenzyme Q10, an endogenous compound involved in mitochondrial energy production.
Idebenone was developed in 1980’s by Takeda Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of cognitive dysfunctions and Alzheimer’s disease.
The pharmacological action of Idebenone is based on its antioxidant and neuroprotective properties. The drug protects cell membranes and mitochondria from oxidative damage, prevent excitotoxicity, and promote the generation of ATP.
