Picamilon is a Russian nootropic drug with anxiolytic properties. By its structure, it is a synthetic combination of GABA (the main inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system) and Niacin (vitamin B3).
Picamilon was discovered in 1969 in the Soviet Union and is used in the medical practice since 1986. Unlike GABA (aminalon) which is also used as a nootropic, Picamilon is able to penetrate the blood-brain barrier and produce an anxiolytic effect.
Besides anxiolytic action, the drug improves cerebral blood flow and metabolism, thus enhancing cognitive functions.
Indications for use are:
- Anxiety and irritability.
- Asthenia (chronic fatigue).
- Cerebrovascular insufficiency.
- Alcohol withdrawals.
- Migraine and traumatic brain injuries.
- Excessive physical and mental exhaustion.
